This role is located within one of our seven faculties, UNSW Canberra however will deliver security advice, support and compliance across all UNSW business regardless of location. Why Your Role Matters
Under the direction of the DISP Chief Security Officer, the Defence Security Manager is the University's nominated primary security officer required by the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership. The role will lead a team that will collaborate with the Office of Assurance and Integrity and the Division of Research and Enterprise to support all UNSW faculties to understand, implement, monitor and report national security-related risks and ensure systems, effective processes and appropriate training are in place. The Defence Security Manager must be an Australian citizen and be eligible to hold an active NV1 Clearance. This role has 1-2 direct reports.

Who You Are (skills and experience):

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent skills gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in enterprise problem solving, navigating complex issues, cultural reform and resistance to change while achieving sustainable ongoing improvement to security issues and threat management.
  • Proven experience in the design, evaluation, implementation, management and reform of changes to business practices to mitigate or manage risk effectively.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing, communication, negotiating and networking skills.
  • Proven collaborative and team-oriented approach, with the ability to quickly establish and maintain a high level of personal and professional credibility across the organisation.
  • Ability to understand and project the future strategic, military and commercial value of advanced technologies, research and concepts.
  • Ability to work on highly sensitive and confidential matters and maintain integrity and information security.

Eligibility:

To be successful you will hold Australian Citizenship and be able to hold and maintain a defence clearance.
