We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join the Faculty of Science and School of Physics and Astronomy to develop methods to map and measure electromagnetic fields inside materials via scanning transmission electron microscopy.
The Research Fellow will work with Associate Professor Scott Findlay to develop new theoretical and computational tools for quantifying electromagnetic field distributions down to the fundamental atomic scale. The project will build on recent developments in inverse scattering methods, including ptychography, and may utilise iterative algorithms, machine learning and high-performance computing. Through the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy, opportunities exist to acquire large experimental datasets using fast-readout electron detectors to validate the methods developed.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Physics, Materials Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field. Research experience in at least one of the following would be highly regarded: (i) the theory and simulation of scattering, diffraction and imaging with high energy electrons or X-rays; (ii) solving inverse scattering problems, such as phase retrieval or ptychography; and/or (iii) aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope data acquisition and analysis.
If you would like to join us in pushing the boundaries of scientific discovery and contributing to the advancement of nanoscience through innovative electromagnetic field mapping techniques then apply today
