Overview

Design and Technology Assistant at the Department of Education, Western Australia. This is a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2025.

Bob Hawke College (Subiaco) emphasises student achievement, pastoral care and a diverse curriculum with modern facilities. The successful applicant will support classroom and workshop operations to enable effective instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the classroom and workshop to enable the classroom teacher to instruct students effectively.
  • Prepare specialised equipment and materials and provide operational advice for Design and Technology workshops, classes and demonstrations.
  • Maintain, evaluate and assess technical equipment, carry out repairs and maintenance on design and technology equipment and arrange off-site repairs, as needed.
  • Assist with the ordering of supplies and equipment, liaise with suppliers, negotiate prices and obtain quotes and ensure adequate supplies are maintained.
Eligibility and requirements
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

      • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in operating technical/industrial equipment within a design and technology workshop/class or similar environment.
      • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and its coverage in industrial environments.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of Design and Technology subjects relevant to secondary schools.
      • Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels.
      • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
