About the Role :

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Underground Design Engineer to join our Design team in a full-time and permanent capacity based at our CBD head office.

The role itself is responsible for providing engineering expertise, design, estimating and design management of underground distribution and sub-transmission projects with CitiPower and Powercor.

As part of the broader Design team, this role is responsible for the delivery of timely, cost effective and quality design related services through innovation, good design practice and a professional attitude towards delivering excellent customer service.

About you:

You are a proactive and enthusiastic professional who enjoys technical challenges, working in a team and liaising with stakeholders to get the job done. By having a detailed approach, you will be utilising your extensive underground distribution and sub-transmission experience to influence and contribute to our many projects.

What you'll deliver:

• Provide effective engineering design and advice in relation to the design of Underground and Overhead lines, sub-transmission and Distribution Substations to agreed standards, and in accordance with the relevant technical manuals, OH&S Act, 'Safety in Design' guidelines and customer requirements.
• Undertake minor surveying activities in accordance with the customer requirements, agreed timeframes, in a cost effective manner.
• Verify designs produced by others, as well as manufacturer supplied drawings, in accordance with agreed standards, 'Safety in Design' guidelines and company requirements.
• Develop design standards & policy in accordance with organisational, regulatory and statutory requirements.
• Undertake technical specification evaluations and recommendations on behalf of the Technical Standards group
• Prepare detailed construction plans for Distribution design projects and maintain system records in accordance with appropriate standards and customer requirements.
• Prepare cost and resource estimates for the design component of Distribution projects in a timely manner and in accordance with Network Services established procedures.
• Consider the commercial/financial implications of all aspects in the provision of products and services to customers in order to optimise financial outcomes for the business .

To succeed in this role you'll have:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
• Certified by Engineers Australia (Essential)
• Currently holding the following Registrations:
  • National Engineering Registration (NER)
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Professional Australia (RPEng)
• Detailed knowledge and experience in underground distribution, sub-transmission and optic fibre project design
• Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD design (or equivalent), electrical networks, operation, and construction plan
• Proven ability of developing and applying new technology/innovations
• Proven ability to apply project Design Management principles
• Knowledge of construction methods and techniques through on-the-job experience.
