The Role

We are seeking a skilled and strategic Team Leader for Waste Planning and Strategy to develop innovative waste and resource recovery strategies and policies. This position is vital in delivering sustainable services aligned with Council's environmental goals, managing key contracts, and engaging stakeholders across all levels.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and managing waste contracts, projects, and service agreements in line with Council objectives.
  • Leading strategy and policy initiatives to address current and emerging waste challenges.
  • Coordinating project teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver waste programs and plans.
  • Analyzing waste data to enhance service delivery and inform decisions.
  • Providing expert advice on waste planning, including development assessments.
  • Representing Council at industry forums and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of Council's Community Strategic documents.
  • Leading a team and fostering a positive work culture.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven project management experience, especially in municipal waste or environmental services.
  • Strong technical understanding of waste strategies, contracts, and regulations.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Analytical, negotiation, and policy development abilities.
  • Experience managing development applications (DAs) and advising on waste infrastructure planning.
  • Class C Driver's Licence.

The salary starts at $126,229 (Grade J, Step 1) plus 12% superannuation. Salary may be negotiable based on skills and experience.
