Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.

Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Opportunity:
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to join the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group as a FIFO- Aged Care Manager on a 6 weeks on 6 weeks off roster in Wanarn community you will be at the forefront of delivering essential Aged Care, significantly contributing to the well-being and health of the Yarnangu people.

The primary responsibilities include overseeing aged care services in compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards and the Charter of Aged Care Rights, managing and resolving complex clinical issues to ensure high-quality care for residents. The role also requires strong, culturally sensitive leadership as a role model for staff and community members. The Aged Care Nurse Manager leads the Aged Care Facility team, ensuring staff adherence to professional standards, and works collaboratively with the GP, CHSP and HCP Services, the Wanarn Primary Health Care Nurse, and other stakeholders to optimize care delivery.

Additionally, the role involves addressing challenges that balance consumer needs, community expectations, and organizational goals, employing a partnership approach to problem-solving with older people on the Lands. In situations where staff shortages compromise care delivery, the Manager is expected to step in to provide direct care for residents to ensure continuity. Occasionally, the Manager participates in primary health care services, supporting the wider health care delivery system, and may provide on-call support as part of the Primary Health Care Nurse component.

The position requires strong industry knowledge of aged care practices and standards, advanced leadersip skills, including effective delegation and professional consultation, and proficient problem-solving abilities, particularly in resource-limited or culturally sensitive settings. The Manager must demonstrate a commitment to fostering culturally appropriate and respectful care and exhibit the ability to adapt to the dynamic demands of managing an aged care facility in a remote community.

About You:
The successful candidate will be required to:

Provide effective and proactive leadership in managing clinical, physical and behavioural care issues

Ensure all client care standards meet professional, organisational, legal, and ethical requirements, as well as achieving Culturally Safe Care.

Ensure clinical care and services provided at Kungkarrangkalpa Aged Care (permanent and respite) are high quality, tailored to individual consumer needs.

Actively participate in NHS' Clinical Governance Working Group

Ensure care is delivered in a way that promotes consumer dignity, choice, and independence in alignment with the Charter of Aged Care Rights.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including quality and safety, food, infection control, WHS and accreditation.

Oversee assessments, admissions, transfers, and on-going reviews to ensure current profiles achieve best consumer outcomes.

Support a collaborative culture, partnering with family members, direct care staff and health professionals. Liaise with family /health professionals to manage differing expectations and potential points of conflict.

Take responsibility for and evidence professional development for self.

Assist in submissions that build on or enhance the NHS Strategic Plan, as agreed.

Participate in conflict management

Review and develop policies when necessary

Contribute to the Facility budget process in conjunction with the Manager of Aged Care & Disability Services of NHS.

This role will require you to travel by light Aircraft to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands a Current Manual WA Drivers License is essential.
