The Property Council of Australia is the champion of Australia's largest industry that employs 1.4 million Australians and shapes the future of our cities. Our members include large and small companies which invest, own, manage and develop all forms of property as well as providers of professional services to the industry.

Position Purpose

To champion strong and transparent real estate capital markets that enable the property industry to create great cities, strong economies and sustainable communities.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and lead public debates and campaigns on issues relevant to real estate capital markets and institutional investment in property.
• Lead public facing communications campaigns in support of advocacy & branding objectives.
• Be trusted advocate for real estate capital markets and institutional investment in property.
• Use a strong understanding of tax and capital markets settings to develop an evidence base, research, policy positions, and submissions to support industry interests with 'high touch' member input.
• In partnership with Membership and Partnerships put strategies in place to retain and attract members.
• In partnership with National Events & Programs, design and deliver the Property Leaders' Summit and Capital Markets Forum to provide deep value to members and strong commercial returns to the Property Council.
• Be a high performing leader as a member of the Executive Committee and within the National Advocacy team.
• Set the Property Council's overall strategy and business plan for Capital Markets as a part of the broader National Advocacy team.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum 8-10 years' experience in similar leadership role.
• Recognised as a strategic and agile thinker with exceptional communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Inclusive, high performing leadership style demonstrated at senior levels in the public, private or not-for-profit sectors.
• Superior experience of complex government, political and policy development processes.
• Significant advocacy and policy shaping credentials.
• Strong strategic and problem-solving smarts.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work across organisations with a 'one company' mindset.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain multiple strategic alliances and networks.
• Strong understanding of political and policy development processes and experience in policy writing, including understanding the Australian tax system and government processes of developing of tax and investment policies.
• Strong understanding of capital markets and institutional investment, preferably in relation to the property sector.
• Tertiary education in politics, public affairs, economics, law, or similar.
