MyVisa invites applications for our 2025 Spring Practical Legal Training (PLT) Program. This is a rare opportunity to gain structured, hands-on legal experience with one of Australia's most highly rated immigration law firms.
Designed for law students and recent graduates, this unpaid program provides practical training across multiple areas of immigration law, with close supervision and mentorship from experienced practitioners.
Program Structure- Stage 1 – Foundations of Practice: Learn the essentials of file construction, workflow management, and professional communication, with a strong focus on drafting persuasive legal submissions.
- Stage 2 – Applications and Reviews: Gain practical experience in preparing visa applications, drafting Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) review applications, and exploring and identifying jurisdictional errors in tribunal decisions.
- Stage 3 – Practice Management and Advocacy: Develop skills in preparing invoices, managing fee collection, and understanding professional obligations when ceasing services. You will also be exposed to submissions for visa cancellation revocations under Section 501 of the Migration Act 1958.
- Stage 4 – Advanced Merits Review (by invitation): Selected participants may progress to an advanced rotation focusing on merits review of immigration decisions under the direct supervision of the Practice Director, who will oversee this phase based on participant progress.
Your supervisor, Nilesh Nandan, is a leading immigration lawyer with over 25 years of experience. Holding degrees in Accounting, Law, and Business Administration, he has advised the Australian Government as part of the Migration Advisory Group and mentored more than 70 junior practitioners. Nilesh is recognised for his rigorous yet supportive training style, offering students a rare opportunity to learn directly from an experienced practitioner dedicated to developing the next generation of immigration lawyers.

What Past Participants Say"The PLT Program at MyVisa Lawyers was not just about completing tasks, ticking off your days in the calendar, but about genuine growth. I was able to build on my existing skills while also developing new ones in areas I had only briefly encountered before. The program challenged me to go deeper, gain confidence, and expand my practical understanding of legal work. Working with such a diverse group of talented colleagues broadened my perspective and made the experience truly engaging. Most importantly, the guidance I received encouraged me to step up, take initiative, and begin shaping myself into a future leader in the profession. It was an experience that combined challenge with opportunity, and I am grateful for it. I am now continuing my journey with MyVisa in a full-time role, which has been equally rewarding."
"My time at MyVisa Immigration Law Advisory has been an exceptional experience. As a PLT intern, I was entrusted with a wide variety of tasks that provided me with valuable, hands-on training and genuine exposure to working in a legal environment. The supportive team environment and the opportunity to learn from the highly knowledgeable and insightful director, Nilesh, made my experience truly enriching. With its professional yet welcoming refurbished office, MyVisa Lawyers is the ideal place to gain a deep understanding of the law."
"Being part of the MyVisa team has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my professional journey. In just 60 days, I experienced growth, challenge, and learning that will stay with me for life. The culture was warm yet demanding, where excellence was expected but support never lacked. The guidance, mentorship, and teamwork carried a value beyond measure. I sharpened my client communication and case management skills, while gaining a complete view of the client journey from onboarding to resolution, knowledge that is truly priceless. The office energy was dynamic and uplifting, with a tight-knit team always ready to step in and lift each other higher. It was an environment where skills, initiative, and hunger to grow were not just welcomed but cultivated. Above all, Nilesh's guidance provided a rare insight that shaped not just my learning, but my perspective."
"My PLT journey with MyVisa Immigration Law Advisory has been truly rewarding. Beyond gaining legal knowledge, the firm's strong values and supportive culture have fostered my growth as a professional in every sense. Under the progressive mentorship of Nilesh Nandan, the practice provides exposure not only to migration law but also to broader aspects of professional development, creating a genuine sense of belonging. Nilesh genuinely cares for and values his team, which has a positive impact and motivates us to perform at our best while feeling appreciated. This environment gives every trainee/professional the opportunity to become a better version of themselves each day. The experience has shaped both my legal and personal development in a deeply positive way."
