Hunter Resource Recovery (HRR) provides kerbside recycling collection and processing services to over 145,000 households across Maitland, Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and Singleton Local Government Areas. HRR are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation and ensure the delivery of high-quality, sustainable recycling services for their communities.
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Chair of HRR, and accountable to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the small operations' team. In addition, a critical component of the role is to oversee and manage two major service contracts encompassing collection and processing of recyclable materials. The CEO plays an active role in ensuring contract compliance and operational excellence on behalf of the 4 Councils supported by HRR.
The CEO will set the rhythm for proactive communication with each Council by ensuring the stakeholders are kept up to date on contract performance, governance and reporting, along with identifying areas for improving operational efficiency.
You will provide high-level operational advice to the Board, through researching and identifying opportunities to expand and innovate in line with policy, community and environmental expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day management of recycling contracts and associated services across member councils.
- Provide high-level policy, operational and strategic advice to the Board.
- Negotiate, manage, and monitor service contracts to ensure compliance and value for stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with councils, government agencies, industry, and the community.
- Ensure effective governance, reporting, risk management, and financial performance.
- Explore and deliver opportunities for innovation, service expansion, and continuous improvement.
About you
You will be an empowering leader with strong commercial acumen and proven experience in managing complex service contracts and stakeholder relationships. You have a natural flair for being able to balance the demands of service delivery, financial sustainability and continuous improvement.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in management, business, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation and management.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
- Strategic and operational leadership experience in a service based environment.
- Financial and business management capability, with a focus on accountability and results.
- Knowledge of waste management and sustainability (highly desirable).
