The Role

Joint Health Unit - Western Australia is looking for a highly motivated, outcomes-focused Practice Manager to join their dynamic team. Join a team of health professionals providing high quality health care to members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

This is a dynamic role, working with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and a complex environment. The successful candidate will provide consistency and oversee the day-to-day management of the facility, be directly responsible for managing a wide range of administrative and coordination activities, ensuring patients receive the highest possible standard of care.

Other duties include managing workforce rosters, coordinating in-house procurement requests, budget allocations, and workplace health and safety requirements, as well as conducting governance and quality assurance activities. Another key aspect of this role is leading a small team and engaging with other relevant stakeholders in order to achieve positive outcomes for ADF members, therefore, effective communication skills are essential.

About our Team

Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 90,000 Australian Defence Force personnel, delivered throughout eight regions, across Australia. HMAS Stirling Health Centre provides a multidisciplinary health service to approximately 4,500 personnel, permanent and reserve. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported force to Defend Australia.

The APS 6 Practice Manager position is part of Joint Health Unit - Western Australia and is based at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island. Each facility provides a range of services which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, and rehabilitation.

The JHC workforce is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence, Civilian, and Contracted Health Professionals. We work together as one team to manage over one million health service interactions each year.

This position reports to the Health Centre Manager at Stirling Health Centre in HMAS Stirling, Garden Island, Rockingham.

Our Ideal Candidate

An enthusiastic self-starter, our ideal candidate will have experience in managing a health care facility and be confident to work independently in a complex and dynamic environment. They must demonstrate sound judgment and knowledge to make decisions in the best interests of the patient and comply with legislation, regulatory frameworks and Defence policies.

As a team leader, they must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to develop and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders both internally and external to Defence. The ability to foster a positive work culture that is service-focused is essential in ensuring that all team members are working towards shared objectives.

The ideal candidate must be flexible and adaptable. They will be comfortable with managing change and responding to short-notice tasks. They will have the ability to anticipate, identify, and respond to changing priorities. They will also be committed to ongoing professional development for both themselves and their team, and be prepared to mentor and train junior team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
