Job Description

Gilead Sciences Pty Ltd. is seeking a Senior Counsel (Associate Director Legal & Compliance) to join the Legal team within the Australia and New Zealand commercial affiliate, based in Melbourne, as part of the ACE Legal and Compliance team supporting Australia, Canada, and Europe. The ANZ affiliate supports Gilead's virology business, including HIV and liver diseases, and growing oncology business including the Gilead Kite CAR T portfolio and solid tumour products.

The role reports to the Head of Lead and Compliance (Associate General Counsel / Senior Director Legal & Compliance) and involves managing a high volume of legal and compliance support, requiring a responsive, self-driven, and hands-on approach. The team also manages healthcare compliance programs, including process development, monitoring, and transparency obligations.

Job duties

You will be a key part of the Legal & Compliance team, supporting the Affiliate's Business Units, Market Access team, Commercial Operations, and other departments on legal and business conduct matters. This includes providing legal advice on sales and marketing strategies, medical education activities, public affairs, patient group and community activities, and policy and government initiatives.

The role also involves supporting the compliance program, providing tools and guidance on Gilead's Business Conduct Manual, the Medicines Australia Code of Practice, competition and consumer law, and anti-bribery measures.

Legal Responsibilities

• Providing strategic legal advice and operational support on product promotion, launch, and market access strategies.
• Supporting legal aspects of product regulation and reimbursement, including the Therapeutic Goods Act and the National Health Act.
• Advising on competition law and anti-bribery/anti-corruption in collaboration with global teams.
• Designing and delivering legal training programs.

Compliance Responsibilities

• Implementing compliance practices within the ANZ affiliate, ensuring alignment with Gilead standards.
• Collaborating on policy, training, and monitoring compliance activities.
• Providing interpretation and advice on compliance requirements and approval processes.
• Supporting review and approval of high-risk activities and promotional materials.

Required Education & Experience

• Qualified lawyer admitted in Australia.
• 10+ years of legal experience, ideally with industry and law firm background.
• Experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech, or regulated industries.
