Each year at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home (SDCH), we welcome thousands of pets, providing services to multiple council areas and supporting over a million Sydneysiders. Our primary mission is to offer stray animal management services for various Sydney councils while focusing on reuniting, rehabilitating, and re-homing the animals in our care. At SDCH, we are committed to a positive, fear-free approach to animal welfare, ensuring every animal in our care receives the best possible care and treatment.

About the Role :

The position of Senior Kennel Animal Attendant presents a great opportunity to make a difference in the world of companion animal welfare. At Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, we're embarking on an exciting journey as we relocate to a brand-new facility, and we're looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join us during this pivotal time. Senior Animal Attendants are responsible for running the site on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all animals receive high-quality care and focusing on achieving the best outcome for the animals.

The successful applicant will be based at our Austral site, until we relocate to Kurnell later in the year.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide exceptional care for our dogs, ensuring they are comfortable, healthy, and content.
  • Manage daily cleaning, feeding, medicating and health checks for all animals in your care.
  • Monitor animal behaviour and communicate any concerns or observations to the appropriate team members.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised environment in the shelter.
  • Placing animals into appropriate adoptive homes; educating adopters on animal care and animal behaviour, and matching the right animal to the right person
  • Record keeping and admin duties such as behavioural assessments
  • Play a key role in helping shape and implement policies and procedures as we transition to our new site.
  • Work autonomously to manage your daily tasks and prioritise work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with a passionate and dedicated team to achieve the best outcomes for both cats and staff.
  • You will report directly to our Kennels Team Leader.

What We're Looking For :

A genuine passion for animal welfare.Dog behaviour or training certificationA motivated and enthusiastic person who thrives in an autonomous work environment while also being a collaborative team player.Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.Excellent communication skills, with a focus on empathy and compassion.Previous experience in animal careWillingness to learn, develop, and grow with us as we expand and evolve.Holds an unrestricted NSW driver's license for transportation for animal-related tasks.
