Adolescent and Family Counsellor
OverviewPermanent Part Time - 4 days per week. Location: Cessnock.
About the OpportunityThe Adolescent and Family Counsellor will provide person centred support and a strengths-based, psychological therapeutic and collaborative approach to assisting young people and families. The primary goal of the Counsellor is to effect reconciliation between young people and their families, to ensure young people stay within the family home, are restored to their family or work towards independent living where this is acceptable and appropriate. The Adolescent and Family Counsellor will offer a range of services to young people, families and young parents including information and advice, support, advocacy and counselling, alongside medium to long term casework, mediation and referrals to relevant agencies or specialist services. Building and developing skills to help individual young people achieve personal goals and facilitating instructional/skills development and therapeutic groups to develop life skills for young people and parenting skills for families is also a key focus of this role.
Responsibilities- Provide person-centred support and a strengths-based approach in casework and counselling using appropriate models of intervention and a range of counselling/therapeutic approaches.
- Offer information, advice, support, advocacy and counselling to young people, families and young parents.
- Conduct medium to long-term casework, mediation and referrals to relevant agencies or specialist services.
- Develop and deliver skills-based and therapeutic groups to build life skills for young people and parenting skills for families.
- Build and maintain linkages and networks with government, community and corporate stakeholders.
- Work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
- Maintain comprehensive and professional client information and complete data collation.
- 14 weeks paid maternity leave or 3 weeks paid parental pay. + Super contributions after 12 months

- Demonstrated skills in assessment, referrals, and co-ordination of care for young people
- Demonstrated ability to use person-centred frameworks and a strengths-based approach in providing casework and counselling using appropriate models of intervention and a range of counselling/therapeutic approaches
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and an understanding of mediation and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated skills in developing, implementing and evaluating skills-based and therapeutic groups with young people and parents
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain linkages and networks with a range of government, community and corporate stakeholders
- Experience in working independently and within a multidisciplinary team of professionals
- Ability to maintain comprehensive and professional client information, and complete data collation
- NSW Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, First Aid & CPR certificate, and undertake a pre-employment functional medical
