Established in 1978 in Sydney, Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, Japan. The TIC Energy Systems & Solutions (ESS) business, currently numbering over 80 staff and growing steadily, mainly comprises engineering and technical personnel focused on our energy sector customers.

Job Summary

TIC is seeking a highly motivated Commissioning Engineer to join the BESS/UPS business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply controls/ electrical engineering technical knowledge across the BESS/UPS business operations, including:
  • Undertaking commissioning activities and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of BESS/UPS and related equipment on sites located in Australia and globally.
  • Undertaking Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of BESS/UPS and related equipment at workshops in Sydney and NSW Central Coast.
  • Working closely with BESS/UPS Engineering team during design and programming phases of the projects.
  • Providing technical support to project delivery teams during construction, commissioning, and handover of projects.
  • Providing phone/online support and remote diagnostics to customers, maintaining and enhancing customer relationships through effective communication.
  • Enabling the safe delivery of Toshiba solutions, e.g., safety in design risk assessment and regulatory approvals.
  • Collaborating with Toshiba teams in Japan and the USA to understand Toshiba ESS technology for effective deployment across TIC regions.
  • Working with key industry stakeholders and bodies, e.g., TNSPs/DNSPs, AEMO, Certification Bodies, for Toshiba technology deployment.
  • This role involves traveling 50% - 60% of the time to support project commissioning and service the installed base, including overnight stays and international travel.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' relevant experience in renewable energy, energy storage, and/or UPS applications.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
  • Understanding of safe electrical commissioning activities, processes, discipline, and risk controls.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of Power systems and components such as BESS, UPS, inverters, generators, switchgear, and transformers, including troubleshooting connections and operations.
  • Knowledge of connecting electrical equipment to Islanded Microgrid or the National Electricity Market (NEM).
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC or microprocessor-based controls, software, and logic (Toshiba, Wago, Siemens PLC).
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working at electrical transmission & distribution sites on maintenance or construction projects in an engineering/commissioning capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on-site and remotely as per project requirements.
  • Australian Driver's License (essential).
