Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of Aboriginal people living on the Central Coast? Central Coast Local Health District has an exciting role for an Aboriginal Clinical Lead within our Safe Wayz/Sexual Harm unit.

This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks notice. Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency.

About You

  • You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander,
  • You have a Bachelor Degree in a health related field such as Social Work, Counselling or Psychology or Completed ECAV qualification pathway – Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
  • You have demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team, managing and responding to complex/stressful situations.

Where You'll Be Working

The Aboriginal Clinical Lead - Safe Wayz/Sexual Harm position is based in Gosford, working Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5.00pm.

The position will form part of the clinical leadership team within the program. This position will be integrated into the District's Sexual Harm and Safety Service, within the Violence Abuse and Neglect (VAN) service stream and will coordinate an integrated response for children under the age of criminal responsibility (currently 10 years in NSW) with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB).

Safe Wayz and Sexual Harm adopts a strength-based, family-focused and culturally centred trauma-informed approach to working with children and families to help prevent behaviours from escalating. There is a State-wide clinical network that will provide clinical and cultural connections, and support in undertaking this work, in addition to cultural and clinical supervision, support and training provided locally.

This position will coordinate primary prevention initiatives, provide early support for children and families to address behaviours when they are first identified, and coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for children and families who need them. The position will hold a clinical case load balanced with community engagement activities and coordinating cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal clinicians working with Aboriginal children and families to facilitate integrated and trauma informed care that is holistic and seamless.

This position will actively support their team to be innovative, culturally safe and evidence-based to develop and deliver effective and sound interventions that operationalise the NSW Health Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Framework, Service Standards and relevant Policy and Procedures. This position will have a professional development plan in place that will provide the opportunity for work-based development which allows for progression through the Award levels in accordance with the position holder's skill acquisition and qualifications.
