Salary Range: $86,989.73 - $90,545.27 per annum

Position Type: Full Time Permanent

Location: Council Chambers, 119 – 145 Spence Street, Cairns

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Public Affairs Officer to join our Strategic Communications & Engagement team

What You Will Do:

As a Senior Public Affairs Officer, you will contribute to public affairs activities and help shape the strategies that maintain and enhance Council's position with the community and stakeholders. From managing traditional and social media content and engagement to monitoring community sentiment, your work will contribute to improving the connection between Council and the community.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the disciplines of journalism, communications, public relations or similar field along with experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated communications capability and the ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content.
  • Good knowledge of public affairs, media communications and stakeholder engagement disciplines.
  • Understanding of the local government context and working environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media and digital platforms.
  • Understanding of managing media releases and responses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including content development capabilities.
  • Ability to relate well to the public, elected members, media, management and staff.
