THE ROLE

The Director of Teaching and Learning is a College Leadership Team role responsible for leading and shaping the College's academic vision and pedagogical excellence across Kindergarten to Year 12. This role provides strategic leadership in curriculum, assessment, professional growth, digital innovation, and teacher accreditation, ensuring a cohesive and future-focused learning culture aligned with the College's Anglican values and strategic direction. The Director of Teaching and Learning maintains a visible presence in classrooms and school life, modelling best practice and engaging with students and staff to foster a culture of excellence.

Being a new role at the College, the specific duties of the Director of Teaching and Learning may evolve over time, with additional responsibilities or direct reports being designated by the Principal as the needs of the College change.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Strategic Leadership

Lead the development and implementation of a whole-school teaching and learning strategy aligned with the College's mission and Strategic Plan: Trinity Towards 2030.

Use internal and external data (including NAPLAN and HSC) to inform strategic direction, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement in student outcomes.

Chair the Data Team. This work may involve the development of a data 'dashboard'.Lead school improvement initiatives based on data insights, including academic audits, improvement plans, and targeted interventions.

Collaborate with the College Leadership Team to set and monitor academic goals and priorities.

Manage budgets related to teaching and learning, including professional development, curriculum resources, and digital innovation initiatives.

Cultivate partnerships with external organisations, including universities, professional associations, and industry, to enhance curriculum relevance and innovation.

Within our Memorandum of Understanding, investigate opportunities to develop innovative teaching practices with Charles Sturt University.

Curriculum and Pedagogy

Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of a rigorous, inclusive, and future-focused K–12 curriculum that meets NESA requirements.

Oversee the implementation of AngliSchools' Vision for Learning.

Design and present information sessions for parents to promote our teaching and learning model and seek their feedback on our approach.

Collaborate with Deputy Principal – Senior School to oversee academic timetabling and subject selection processes, ensuring alignment with student pathways and curriculum priorities.

Working with the Deputy Principals, provide strategic guidance for the delivery of Learning Support and Enrichment.

Support academic transitions between key stages (e.g., Year 6 to 7, Year 10 to 11), ensuring continuity of learning and informed subject choices.

Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum and pedagogy across all stages and learning areas.

Mentor the Deans of Studies in their work with Heads of Department and Stage Leaders, fostering collaboration and consistency in curriculum delivery across K–12.

Promote evidence-based teaching practices and foster a culture of innovation and reflective practice.

Professional Growth and Development

Lead the College's professional learning strategy, including the design and delivery of whole-school professional development programs.

Build leadership capacity amongst staff through mentoring, coaching and targeted development initiatives.

Ensure professional learning is aligned with strategic goals, curriculum priorities, and individual teacher needs.

Contribute to the recruitment and induction of teaching staff, and support performance review processes through coaching and feedback aligned with strategic goals.

Teacher Accreditation

Oversee and support teacher accreditation processes at all levels (Proficient, Highly Accomplished, and Lead Teacher).

Provide targeted support for early career teachers as they work toward Proficient Teacher accreditation, including mentoring, induction programs, and guidance on portfolio development and reflective practice.

Support staff in career progression toward Accomplished (ISTAA), Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher accreditation, fostering a culture of professional aspiration and excellence.

Ensure compliance with NESA accreditation requirements and maintain accurate records of teacher progress and status.

Provide guidance and mentoring to staff undertaking accreditation and career progression.

Digital Technology and Innovation

Lead the strategic integration of digital technologies into teaching and learning practices across K–12.

Promote innovative approaches to digital pedagogy, including blended and online learning models.

Collaborate with IT and Digital Learning teams to ensure staff are supported in the effective use of educational technologies.

Information Services (Library)

Provide strategic oversight of the College's Information Services, ensuring alignment with teaching and learning priorities.

Support the development of digital and information literacy across the curriculum.

Foster a culture of inquiry, research and reading, through collaboration with Information Services staff and teaching teams.

Assessment and Reporting

Lead the development and implementation of consistent, transparent and effective assessment and reporting practices.

Use data analytics to monitor student progress, inform teaching, and evaluate program effectiveness.

Promote a culture of feedback, student agency and academic growth.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

Ensure compliance with all NESA and regulatory requirements related to curriculum, assessment and teaching standards.

Lead academic audits, reviews and improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.

Prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including the College Council and regulatory bodies.

REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of Trinity Anglican College and AngliSchools.

Positively promote the College, both within the school and in the wider community.

Maintain confidentiality about students, staff and College business.

Respond promptly to parent or student concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS

Postgraduate qualifications in education, leadership, or a related field.

Experience with school improvement planning and educational innovation.

Familiarity with digital learning platforms, library systems, and emerging technologies in education.

Accreditation with NESA.

Current Working with Children Check and National Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)

Current First Aid certificate is desirable.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Demonstrated leadership experience in a K–12 educational setting, preferably within the independent school sector.

Deep understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment and professional learning.

Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives using data (e.g., NAPLAN, HSC) to improve student outcomes.

Experience in leading teacher accreditation processes and supporting staff through career progression.

Expertise in digital learning and innovation, with a strong understanding of contemporary educational technologies.

Experience overseeing library or information services in an educational context.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and influence.

Commitment to the values and ethos of Anglican education.

Accreditation with NESA and a current Working with Children Check.
