Secondary Experienced Learning Support Officer

The Role:

A wonderful opportunity is open for a Secondary experienced, caring and committed Learning Support Officer to join a welcoming Catholic secondary school community in Melbourne's West, starting Term 3. Working across Years 7-10, you'll play a vital role in supporting students' learning, wellbeing, and personal development as part of a dedicated and student-focused team. This contract position offers the potential for ongoing opportunities in a nurturing and values-driven school environment.

Key duties:

• Provide in-class assistance to students with disabilities, learning difficulties, or behavioural needs.
• Support students with tasks like reading, writing, numeracy, organisation, or using assistive technology.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), or adjustments under the NCCD framework.
• Work under the direction of the classroom teacher to support the learning environment.
• Modify or adapt learning materials to suit student needs.
• Promote student engagement, independence, and confidence.
• Provide supervision during class, recess, excursions, and other school activities where needed.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, wellbeing staff, and leadership to share observations and feedback on student progress.
• Engage with parents/guardians where appropriate (usually under teacher or leadership guidance).
• Participate in student support group (SSG) meetings as required.

Skills & Experience:

• Completed relevant Certificate 3 or 4 in Education Support including a minimum of 100 hours school placement
• Current WWCC
• Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
• Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years experience as Education Support in a Secondary Setting in AU/NZ
• Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (placement mentors are acceptable)
• Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow directions while showing initiative
• Understanding of disability, neurodiversity, trauma-informed practice, or behaviour support is highly valued
