Role: We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to manage Drive's infrastructure in a multi-cloud environment, including AWS and GCP, with a focus on Operational Excellence, Security, and Reliability. This is a hands-on role where you will apply your Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) skills using tools like Terraform and Serverless Framework to deliver and maintain our architecture.

What you'll do
  • Build infrastructure using IaC tooling such as Terraform and Serverless Framework.
  • Own and deliver non-functional requirements associated with roadmap items, including Observability, Availability, Scalability, and Security.
  • Provide guidance to squads on architecture to ensure high availability.
  • Ensure visibility of overall cost, project-specific costs, and provide regular updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Perform periodic reviews of infrastructure across AWS Well-Architected framework and address gaps and issues.
Qualifications
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling, specifically Terraform and Serverless Framework.
  • Experience managing multi-cloud environments (AWS and GCP) with a focus on Operational Excellence, Security, and Reliability.
  • Ability to own non-functional requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with cost visibility and cost governance practices.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to guide squads on architecture for high availability.

What you'll do
  • Design, deploy, and maintain scalable and reliable application infrastructure in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Build and manage Kubernetes clusters and related infrastructure using Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD.
  • Write maintainable, production-grade code in a modern programming language (Golang, TypeScript, or Kotlin).
  • Apply CloudOps and SRE fundamentals, including SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, toil reduction, golden signals, and progressive delivery, to real-world systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve networking issues in distributed systems (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, HTTP/S).
  • Perform Linux system administration, including performance analysis, troubleshooting, and automation with shell tools.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and product teams to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions.

Drive – Data Engineer

Location: 2060 Waverton, New South Wales

Overview: Drive is Nine's brand appealing to the automotive enthusiast. The Data Engineer role sits at the heart of our data operations, designing systems that scale, protect data quality, and support teams with data, reporting and insights. This is a hands-on role where you will play both architect and operator, designing systems that can handle diverse data types while ensuring reliability and performance at scale. You will work collaboratively with Technology squads, ETL Engineers, and the Head of Infrastructure.

What you'll do
  • Create flexible, scalable, and efficient data models that cater to diverse analytical and processing requirements.
  • Write efficient queries, structure datasets for analytics, and troubleshoot performance issues in production environments.
  • Design systems that scale and adapt to schema drift, late-arriving data, or inconsistent input format.
  • Create self-service capabilities for business users while maintaining enterprise-grade security and governance standards.
  • Establish standards and automated processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Implement multi-layered security measures including encryption, access controls, and continuous monitoring to protect sensitive data.
  • Apply infrastructure as code principles and tools like Terraform to manage cloud resources programmatically, ensuring reproducible deployments and consistent environments.
  • Apply window functions, common table expressions, and query optimization techniques to improve performance.
  • Design storage and compute strategies that balance cost, performance, and compliance, integrating cloud-native data solutions with legacy systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on data modelling, aggregation, and business intelligence.
  • Proven ability to design and build efficient data models within a data warehouse environment.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing principles and dimensional modelling.
  • Expert-level SQL skills for complex data manipulation, querying, and aggregation.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate business needs into technical data solutions.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a focus on data accuracy and integrity.
  • Nice-to-Haves: Experience with Vector Databases and RAG will be a plus; Tableau; Snowflake.

Nine – Platform Engineer (Observability)

Location: Open based on Nine offices

Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Platform Engineer who specialises in Observability, primarily focused around the open-source Grafana observability stack. You will be instrumental in managing the lifecycle of our observability platform, ensuring robust monitoring, logging, tracing and profiling for our applications running on Kubernetes. You will contribute to the architecture, implementation, and continuous improvement of our observability pipeline, enabling teams to monitor and optimise system performance efficiently.

What you'll do
  • Implement OpenTelemetry within application codebases and manage Otel tooling and services.
  • Architect, implement, and manage an observability stack based on Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, and related technologies within a Kubernetes environment.
  • Ensure comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing coverage for microservices and Kubernetes clusters.
  • Collaborate with development and platform teams to create meaningful dashboards, alerts, and automated incident responses.
  • Continuously improve the observability platform for scalability, multi-tenancy, and reliability.
  • Support and mentor teams in adopting best practices for instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Implement automation and infrastructure-as-code practices for managing observability infrastructure using Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Integrate observability tooling with other cloud services and on-premise infrastructure as required.
  • Ensure security and compliance standards are met, focusing on auditability and data integrity within the observability stack.
Qualifications
  • Strong passion for observability and customer-first mentality.
  • Extensive experience with Kubernetes, Grafana stack (Mimir, Loki, Tempo), and OpenTelemetry Collectors.
  • Experience building observability pipelines in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Experience with SaaS-based observability platforms (e.g., New Relic).
  • Strong automation skills and experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Helm).
  • Proficient in scripting and programming languages (Node, Python, Go, Shell).
  • Experience supporting development teams with production monitoring and root cause analysis.
  • AWS/Azure/GCP certifications are highly regarded.
