Software Engineering Team Lead

Software Engineering Team Lead (Mobile) at The role involves managing people and delivering product-focused work for the Repeat mobile app, with time split between people management and technical delivery.

• Manage a team of engineers.
• Help engineers grow their skills and experience.
• Own the delivery of the Repeat mobile app to market.
• Provide guidance and coaching on technical contributions, product architecture, and other areas.
• Maintain empathy for the team by overseeing engineering processes and practices (e.g., one-on-ones, code reviews, and handling non-critical path bugs/features).
• Conduct managerial interviews for candidates and train the team to conduct technical interviews.
• Generate and implement process improvements.
• Hold regular 1:1s with all team members and give clear feedback on performance.
• Foster technical decision making while making final decisions when necessary.
• Improve product quality, security, and performance.
• Possess more than one specialty on the team per our shared domain concept.
• Participate in the Incident Management on-call rotation to help meet availability goals.
• Develop features and improvements to the Repeat product in a secure, well-tested, and performant way.
• Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders to iterate on new features.
• Craft code that adheres to internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment, and advocate for these standards through code reviews.
• Ship small features with minimal guidance and collaborate on larger projects.
• Contribute to improving the overall product experience and identify areas of codebase improvement (e.g., component library).
• Learn, collaborate and mentor other Software Engineers; promote inclusive and collaborative contributions.
• Help triage bugs, determine priority, and ensure timely resolution.
• Follow and contribute to the team workflow and the Repeat community's practices.

• Demonstrated experience in a leadership role with current technical experience.
• Experience running Scrum or other agile rituals.
• Experience delivering mobile applications to market on Android and iOS.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• In-depth technical experience in React Native and React.
• Professional experience with Typescript.
• Professional experience with NodeJS, SQL (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and MongoDB.
• Experience writing automated tests (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, AVA, tape).
• Experience using Git in a professional environment.
• Solid understanding of core mobile concepts.
• Ability to clearly communicate complex technical, architectural, and organizational problems and propose iterative solutions.
• Experience with performance optimization and diagnosing related problems.
• Comfort working in a highly agile, iterative software development process.
• Ability to onboard and integrate with an organization long-term.
• Positive and solution-oriented mindset; effective communication and regular status updates.
• Inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility.
• Self-motivated and self-managing with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work closely with other parts of the organization and align with shared values.
• Must be based in Brisbane.

• Experience in a peak performance organization, preferably a tech startup.
• Experience with competitive video games (e.g., Fortnite, DotA2, League of Legends, Rocket League).
• Product company experience.
• Enterprise software company experience.
• Computer science education or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with a global or multicultural team.
