Award / Classification: Correctional Officers Agreement Correctional Officer Day Training and Shift Work

Salary: 64,583.00 to $98,356.00 per annum; post training salary range for Shift Work is $86,013 - $94,751 pa + super. During training (12 weeks), salary is $64,583 pa + super. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Correctional Officers Agreement 2023.

A Correctional Officer contributes to the safe, humane and secure containment of prisoners / remandees and their rehabilitation.

• Contribute to the safe, humane and secure containment of prisoners / remandees and their rehabilitation.
• Work on a fully rotational roster, including day and night shifts, public holidays and weekends. During training, start and finish times may vary; trainees can expect day shifts Monday to Friday.
• Complete a 13 week training program at the Risdon site to develop skills for professional and effective correctional work and to enable eligibility for a Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial).

• Demonstrate resilience, maturity and flexibility with high levels of literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.
• Ability to read people and situations and think critically to problem solve.
• Ability to work in teams, with very high-level interpersonal skills and integrity, strength and stamina, resilience, respect, accountability, adaptability and sound judgment.
• Demonstrate alignment with the Department of Justice values: integrity, respect and accountability within an inclusive and collaborative workplace.
• No prior corrections training, experience or qualifications required; however, attributes in areas such as teamwork, interpersonal skills, and decisiveness are sought.

• Pre-employment checks include arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex offences, drug/alcohol offences, crimes involving dishonesty/deception, making false declarations, Malicious damage and other listed offences, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power, and crimes involving conspiracy.
• Disciplinary action in previous employment; reference to Statement of Duties and any associated documents.
• Criminal history background checks and psychological/workforce health assessments as part of the recruitment process.
