About your new Role

As a Tax Specialist at Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA), you will be responsible for ensuring the overall accuracy and compliance of VGA's taxation obligations. This includes income tax, FBT, GST/BAS, and customs duties. Working closely with external consultants, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Australian tax regulations while providing strategic advice to minimise financial risk and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Reporting to the Accounting & Treasury Manager, you will also partner with internal stakeholders across the finance team to deliver process improvements, enhance efficiency, and maintain robust relationships with the Australian Tax Office, external advisors, and Volkswagen Group HQ.

Your main responsibilities
  • Managing the preparation and lodgement of all corporate tax obligations, including Income Tax, FBT and GST/BAS returns.
  • Monitoring and interpreting new tax laws and implementing changes across VGA where required.
  • Advising on customs matters and identifying opportunities to reduce indirect tax and duty costs.
  • Providing accurate tax provisions for corporate, local, and international employees.
  • Supporting corporate risk management by analysing market and industry trends and implementing tax strategies accordingly.
  • Managing relationships and operations with local banks, including oversight of payroll and bank transactions.
  • Liaising with the Australian Tax Office, Volkswagen Group HQ, and external consultants to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to streamline tax and financial processes across the business.
About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • CPA or CA qualification (essential) with a tertiary degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation legislation, compliance, and corporate tax obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex tax processes, ideally within a large corporate or multinational environment.
  • Excellent analytical, advisory, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to interpret financial statements and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and project management skills.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with a drive to identify efficiencies and deliver cost savings.
