A unique opportunity exists for highly skilled, innovative, and experienced Health and Physical Education teachers to join the Wacol Youth Remand Education Support Hub (WYRESH). The hub operates as a stand-alone interim facility and is a campus of the Queensland Education and Training Centre (QETC). Our vision is to promote equity and excellence within a progressive, high-performing education system that realises the potential of every student.
WYRESH is a co-educational school providing educational programs for up to 76 remanded young people at the Wacol Youth Remand Centre. The centre primarily holds young people on remand for short periods. The curriculum emphasizes individualised Literacy and Numeracy learning, as well as Health and Physical Education, focusing on social development through restorative practices. The goal is to prepare students for successful transitions to school, employment, or further training. Our staff are dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of students who often have complex trauma and disadvantages due to disrupted or negative schooling experiences.
About The Role
Teachers will collaborate with the Head of Campus, staff across QETC campuses, and interdepartmental stakeholders to implement an improvement agenda aligned with QETC's vision of "unlocking learning."
The ideal candidates will have experience in student-centred learning, with the ability to address individual skills gaps, develop language and social skills, and create future pathway opportunities.
The education model at Queensland youth detention centres runs over a 48-week year to maintain student engagement. Employment entitlements are consistent with other State Schools, with opportunities for flexible work arrangements.
