Senior Manager, Research - Part-time 0.8 FTE

The VCCC Alliance is seeking a dynamic, proactive, and experienced individual to step into the role of Senior Manager- Research. This exciting opportunity supports and drives the implementation of our collaborative research and data strategy, working across the VCCC Alliance's portfolios and partner organisations to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

About the Opportunity

As the Senior Manager- Research, you will lead and coordinate a portfolio of innovative programs, projects, and stakeholder activities aligned with the VCCC Alliance's Collaborative Research and Data & Technology strategic pillars. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Programs, you will work collaboratively to drive the delivery of key initiatives, proactively seek new research opportunities, build and strengthen strategic networks, and identify potential grant and funding avenues to expand the reach and impact of VCCC Alliance programs.

You will play a key role in managing governance structures, research initiatives, and partnerships including the Centre for Cancer Immunotherapy, Data Connect, and our Enhanced Registry Trials and EMR Embedded Trials programs. The role also connects with equity, education, and consumer engagement strategies, ensuring inclusive, evidence-informed and community-aligned research approaches.

You will provide expert advice, coordinate research-focused board committees, build meaningful collaborations, and support the generation of funding and strategic advocacy efforts. This is a high-impact, relationship-focused role at the heart of collaborative, translational cancer research.

The level of the position within the VCCC Alliance structure and remuneration will be dependent on the level of experience and expertise of the suitable incumbent.

Responsibilities Include:

Project Management

  • Lead the delivery of research and data initiatives in collaboration with strategic and operational leads
  • Support the research strategy across equity, education, consumer engagement, and data science programs
  • Oversee governance committees and reporting, including CRAC and metrics sub-committees
  • Drive funding development, reporting and cross-portfolio alignment of key research initiatives
  • Collaborate on grant applications, reporting and performance metrics for internal and external audiences
  • Track and deliver milestones, risks, budgets and contracts for priority programs
  • Coordinate advisory groups and working groups, and run effective hybrid meetings
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement through workshops, reports, and strategic events
  • Champion consumer inclusion across all phases of program design and delivery

Stakeholder & Relationship Management

  • Liaise with academic, clinical, government and community partners across the research ecosystem
  • Foster strong relationships to enable co-design, delivery and impact of collaborative research
  • Strengthen and steward partnerships with key groups, including the Victorian Teletrials Collaborative
  • Lead, support and develop a small team of professional reports.
  • Support the wider team generally, to ensure identified strategic priorities and program initiatives are delivered to a high standard.

About you:

You will have significant experience in the management of complex program management with proven team leadership and relationship-building experience. You will:

  • Have strong knowledge of collaborative research, clinical trials and translational science
  • Be experienced in strategic planning and leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Have excellent communication skills and facilitation skills, with the ability to translate research strategy into action, facilitate and present persuasively to multi-disciplinary and diverse groups
  • Show a strong understanding of governance, budgeting, reporting, and risk management
  • Have worked cross-functionally and fostered partnerships across diverse sectors
  • Have demonstrated commitment to equity, consumer involvement and collaborative impact
  • Have a proficient understanding of project management frameworks and methodologies, with the ability and skill to adjust processes to problem solve and remove unnecessary complexity
  • Be proficient in the use of hybrid communication technology such as Zoom, MSTeams and/or Slack, Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and Asana or similar project/tasks management systems.
  • Graduate degree (preferably postgraduate degree e.g., a PhD or Masters in a relevant discipline such as public health, health services research, biological science or clinical research or extensive experience in a similar field.
