Overview

We are partnered with a successful Australian business investing in data and technology to fuel their next stage of growth. They have created a greenfield opportunity for a Principal Data Engineer to architect and deliver a next-generation data platform that will serve as the foundation for analytics, AI and decision-making across the company.

As Principal Data Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of designing, building, and scaling a new cloud-native data platform from scratch. This is a highly strategic role where you'll shape the technical vision, choose the right technologies, and establish best practices for data engineering. You'll be hands-on in building pipelines and infrastructure while also providing thought leadership, mentoring, and setting standards for the broader team.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and scale a cloud-native data platform from scratch for analytics, AI and decision-making.
  • Own end-to-end data engineering deliverables, architecture decisions, and technology selection in a greenfield environment.
  • Hands-on development of data pipelines and infrastructure; implement best practices for data engineering, governance, and security.
  • Provide thought leadership, mentoring, and set standards for the data engineering team.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience designing and building large-scale data platforms in AWS.
  • Expertise in AWS data services (essential) such as Glue, EMR, S3, Redshift, Kinesis, etc.
  • Strong Python and SQL for data pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, containerisation).
  • Solid understanding of data governance and security within AWS.
  • Knowledge of data quality, monitoring, and observability tools.
  • Ability to make architecture and toolset decisions in a greenfield environment.
