Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Ward Clerks to join the Broadmeadows Health Information services & Unit 1 team.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

This role is responsible for clerical, administrative and reception duties of the Ward.

Ward Clerks are the first point of contact for staff, patients and visitors to the Ward. You will play key role in managing patient records, coordinating admissions and discharges, answering inquires and providing administrative support to the unit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Obtain current and accurate registration information from patients on admission
  • Complete Election for Admission forms (including private insurance and compensable) and ensure patient signs the form as appropriate
  • Maintain i.PM (Patient Administration System) to ensure accurate and timely recording of patient and ward data
  • Management of admission paperwork
  • Managing unit supplies
  • Supporting nursing team with clerical tasks
  • Coordinate and book ambulance/transport services to facilitate discharges/patient transfers
  • Timely and accurate completion of the discharge process procedure
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth workflow across the unit.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • A strong administrative skillset and/or experience in a clerical role; experience in a health care setting and/or busy environment is advantageous.
  • IT proficiency and good working knowledge of Patient Administration Systems such as iPM and CPF. Computer literacy using the Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a team of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Well-developed time management and ability to demonstrate initiative.
