Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.

Regional Capital Delivery is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for for delivery of new and upgrades to road and bridge infrastructure.

About The Role

The fixed term role is until 28/2/27

The Project Officer works closely with Project Leads and Project Managers, supporting the delivery of road and bridge improvement projects. The Project Officer supports delivery of projects on time, within budget and meeting client requirements by assisting with the assessment of progress claims and

variations, monitoring and reporting on project performance, preparing contract and project documentation.

The Project Officer may be assigned the responsibility for delivering non-complex projects under the direction of more experienced Project Leads and Project Managers.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong project delivery skills by defining tasks to achieve agreed outcomes and proactively monitoring progress, taking corrective action when needed. They will apply foundational critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, using policies and processes to address issues or seeking guidance with relevant insights. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to understand others' perspectives, motivations, and needs, and to tailor communication effectively to different audiences to ensure impactful service delivery.

Position Accountabilities

• Effective Project Delivery – Under direction, ensures that non-complex capital delivery projects are on time, and meet client requirements.
• Effective Project Support – Has prepared and keeps up to date project plans and project documentation under guidance. Has accurately assessed project status. Has prepared accurate responses to project queries, both contractual and in responding to customers.
• Quality and Risk Management – The incumbent ensures that projects meet and are delivered in accordance with project management, financial, risk, quality, safety procedures and policy and complies with regulations.
• Accurate project report– Has accurately provided quality, timely reports on physical and financial progress of the project
• In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities

Qualifications And Experience

Mandatory

• Experience at managing delivery of infrastructure projects.
  
  

Desirable

• A relevant tertiary degree in engineering, project management or similar equivalent experience.
  
  

Role Specfic Requirements

• A valid Driver licence.
• Evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel may be required

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification. Information provided to the Department of Transport and Planning will be treated in the strictest confidence consistent with the requirements of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.

Recipients of Victorian Public Service (VPS) voluntary departure packages should note that re-employment restrictions apply.

Non-VPS applicants will be subject to a probation period of six months.
