Applications will be limited to suitably qualified Infectious Diseases specialists currently employed within WSLHD, including Staff Specialists, Clinical Academics, Postgraduate Fellows, and Honorary Medical Officers.

Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of competence in clinical care in infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings, including critical care infection, infections in immunocompromised patients, HIV medicine, tuberculosis, surgical infections, infections in returned travelers, infections in pregnancy, emerging infectious diseases, high consequence infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, and antimicrobial stewardship. They should also have experience in supervising junior medical staff and students, and a track record in infectious diseases research.

The Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (CIDM) at Westmead encompasses clinical, research, teaching, and laboratory services related to Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, hosting the NSW Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases, including the NSW Biocontainment Centre. Clinical services include inpatient, outpatient, and consultative care, antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, HIV services, and tuberculosis services. Active research areas include infections in immunosuppressed and critically ill patients, epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, mycology, virology, health informatics, HIV, hepatitis, vaccine-preventable diseases, emerging infections, and public health.

The Department of Infectious Diseases is closely affiliated with the CIDMLS of NSW Health Pathology - Westmead, which provides extensive diagnostic and public health microbiology services.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

• Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Additional qualifications, skills, or experience relevant to Infectious Diseases medicine.
• Demonstrated skills for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner, including:

  • Organizational, supervision, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Experience in quality assurance and translating research into practice.
• Experience in Infection Prevention and Control.
• Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.

• Commitment to good governance, results, risk management, and education/research.
• Provide evidence of a Working with Children Check.
