The position engages regularly with Logistics Officers across cargo facilities, Station Supply Officers on stations, the Maritime Operations team, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders throughout the operational season.

Key duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Cargo Operations Team Leader in defining, introducing and promoting a consistent standard of cargo packing techniques and presentation requirements.
  • Working effectively and with minimal direction within the Supply Chain Operations Section to develop and maintain succinct cargo packing documentation and seasonal communications on this subject, providing useful guidance to Logistics Officers, Station Supply personnel and, where appropriate, general consigners of cargo.
  • Undertake assurance checks on packed cargo transport units to ensure conformance with relevant AAD procedures and federal/ international legislation (Marine Orders, IMO etc).
  • Undertake biosecurity risk material assessments on cargo at the Cargo Biosecurity Centre prior to packing into respective transport units.
  • Work collaboratively with Logistics Officers and other Supply Chain Personnel to facilitate safe and establish packing processes utilising various cargo transportation units, and ad hoc out-of-gauge packing processes where applicable.
  • Work with voyage biosecurity coordinators to risk manage and apply relevant AAD biosecurity measures to cargo profiles.
  • Participate in the annual review of the AAD's cargo-related Standard Operating Procedures and biosecurity management practices.
  • Assist in the management of the Cargo Biosecurity Centre's, Customs 77g depot ensuring adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the management of the Cargo Biosecurity Centre's 1.3 and 4.3 approved arrangements.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of cargo packing and presentation training for Station Supply Officers and other AAD personnel.
  • Actively contribute to the safe working environments at all AAD cargo handling and warehousing facilities and fostering the safety culture within the team.
  • Identify emerging risks related to the provision of core Supply Chain Operations services, opportunities for process improvements and asset developments potentially impacting supply chain management, considering ramifications and longer-term impacts.
