About The Team

This role is a key position in the Red Lily Primary Health Care team that serves more than 1,000 people in the West Arnhem region (including homelands). Engagement and collaboration with other communities and teams within Red Lily and beyond will be necessary to ensure high-quality services and outcomes.

Gunbalanya is a vibrant Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land, located 300km east of Darwin and 60km northeast of Jabiru. The town features essential services and facilities including a school, supermarket and service station, police station, crèche facilities, aged care services, a sports club, community arts centre, and more. The region offers a culturally rich environment with breathtaking landscapes and a strong sense of community.

• Year-round access via air charter from Jabiru Airport.
• Dry season (May - Nov): Road access.

About The Role

As a General Practitioner in a remote ACCHO, you will be part of a multidisciplinary remote primary health care team, providing comprehensive primary healthcare in a culturally sensitive and community-led manner. The role offers opportunities to contribute to the development of a permanent GP service aligned with community needs.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a multidisciplinary remote primary health care team to manage client care across the lifespan, treat illness, promote wellbeing, provide education and training, and support community health action to improve outcomes.
• Integrate Indigenous cultural imperatives in the delivery of healthcare within the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.
• Collaborate with a dedicated team to improve health outcomes in the West Arnhem region.
• Contribute to the development of a permanent GP service tailored to community needs.

Our ideal candidate

• Holds specialist General Practitioner registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM.
• Australian citizen or permanent resident.
• Broad-based primary care experience in rural/remote settings, ideally in Indigenous health.
• Culturally aware with knowledge of issues impacting remote Indigenous communities.
• Accreditation or experience as a GP supervisor is advantageous.
