Responsibilities

• Complete the Emergency Transition to Specialty Practice Program starting 2 February 2026, with rotations through adult and children's emergency.
• Participate in a well-established structured program with clinical support and orientation to the ED, including supernumerary shifts during the initial transition.
• Develop and demonstrate advanced emergency nursing skills, including comprehensive patient assessment of adults and paediatrics, ECG interpretation, high dependency nursing care, non-invasive ventilation, and invasive monitoring management.
• Transition into working in the resuscitation area with support from the Emergency Education Team.
• Work across shifts on a monthly self-request roster and engage in ongoing professional development.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience
• Previous emergency nursing experience

The Program

The course aims to build knowledge via online content, face-to-face study days and clinical support to enhance practice through a structured clinical progression program. A comprehensive orientation to the ED will be provided, including supernumerary shifts in the initial transition.

• Concepts explored include patient assessment (adult and paediatric), ECG interpretation, and high dependency nursing care skills.
• The program supports transition to the resuscitation area with the Emergency Education Team.

• Further develop confidence and advanced competence of the emergency nurse within a supportive clinical setting.
• Develop specialised knowledge and skills to ensure safety and quality of emergency care.
• Build core foundational and advanced skills to enable safe delivery of care.
• Foster problem solving and critical thinking in the Emergency Department clinical environment.
• Align clinical and theoretical knowledge while planning and delivering emergency care.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with minimum 12 months acute nursing experience
