Role PurposeAs the Team Leader, you will demonstrate a commitment to the ABC Principles of Aim High, Think Differently, Take Ownership, Deliver Together. Your purpose is to lead and evolve the Compute Platforms team to deliver scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure platforms designed for use by ABC's technology teams. These platforms support the deployment and operation of applications and services across a range of business domains. The team is responsible for ensuring the platforms are reliable, governed, and easy to consume, enabling technology teams of varying experience levels to successfully build, run, and manage their workloads.
Key Accountabilities- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of enablement, automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the design, development, and lifecycle management of compute platforms (virtual and physical) that support ABC products and services.
- Drive the delivery of self-service infrastructure capabilities, enabling internal teams to provision and manage resources independently.
- Define and implement guardrails, governance, and automation to ensure platform reliability, security, and compliance.
- Ensure all platform services have comprehensive observability, including logging, metrics, and tracing, aligned with availability and resiliency standards.
- Collaborate with application teams, architects, product owners, and other stakeholders to co-design solutions and integrate platform services across the technology ecosystem.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and licensing to maintain supported, secure, and cost-effective platforms.
- Ensure compliance with ABC's security posture, including patching, vulnerability management, audit readiness, and governance reporting.
- Continuously assess emerging technologies to improve platform performance, scalability, and developer experience.
- Extensive experience leading high-performing platform and infrastructure engineering teams in complex enterprise environments, setting technical direction, driving automation, and delivering continuous improvement.
- Expert level knowledge of virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) with deep experience in designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade server infrastructure, including automation, monitoring, lifecycle management, and fault tolerance across virtual and physical platforms.
- Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Linux, with extensive experience in administration, optimisation, troubleshooting, automation of repeatable tasks, and applying security and compliance best practices.
- Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and PowerShell, applying infrastructure-as-code to deliver scalable, consistent, and efficient environments.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating self-service infrastructure platforms that enable internal teams to provision and manage compute resources independently.
- Strong understanding of public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), including core services, networking, identity, and security models.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers at all levels, support adoption of platform services, and improve usability based on feedback and usage patterns.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts, influence decision-making, and collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Familiarity with broadcasting and streaming infrastructure requirements, including performance, availability, and media workflows.
The Product & Technology (P&T) division is responsible for delivering the technology and services that enable the ABC to fulfil its creative, strategic and business goals. The scope of activities and responsibilities of the P&T division range from keeping ABC programs and services on-air and on-line, to delivering on key projects, as well as assisting in setting the technology strategy and architecture for the ABC.
