Work alongside the Archbishop, Bishops and Diocesan Registrar

Lead an expert operational team across Finance, Property, People and Culture, Information Technology and Communications

The Role

The Anglican Diocese of Melbourne consists of more than 200 local parishes with centralized senior clerical leadership and an expert operational team – all working together. The CEO has a key oversight role in operational delivery on an exciting strategic agenda in close collaboration and partnership with the Archbishop of Melbourne, the Assistant Bishops and the elected leadership community. Managing an operational team and leading the property, information systems, finance, people and culture and communications areas, the CEO works closely with the Diocesan Registrar to ensure systems and processes are clear, effective, and subject to continuous improvement with risks identified and actively managed. This senior leadership role will suit an experienced executive who is highly collaborative and effective in operational delivery within a complex authorizing environment.

As Interim CEO, you will:

• Provide high-level organisational, financial and strategic leadership.
• Lead the executive team to ensure effective governance, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Oversee financial management, property, and risk frameworks to maintain long-term sustainability.
• Support governance structures, ensuring Boards and Committees receive timely, accurate advice and information.
• Oversee human resources strategy, including leadership development and staff engagement.
• Guide property, fundraising, and financial strategies to strengthen the Diocese's resources and mission.
• Uphold compliance and reporting obligations to Synod, regulators, and stakeholders.
• Represent the Diocese externally, fostering positive relationships with Anglican agencies, parishes, government, regulators, and other key partners.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Demonstrated C-level leadership experience within the not-for-profit, faith-based, or complex multi-stakeholder environments.
• Extensive experience as a highly collaborative, values driven leader.
• A tertiary qualification in Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Strong financial acumen and experience managing fiscal and human resources.
• Expertise in governance, compliance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
• High level experience and skills in the development and deployment of vision, mission and strategic plans.
• Experience in fund and property management, with demonstrated pragmatism.
• High-level written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with leading and motivating direct reports to advance employee engagement and develop a high performing managerial team.
