About Us

Western Private Hospital, located in Footscray, is a 62-bed private acute hospital and is the longest serving private hospital in Melbourne's west providing much needed services to the people in the expanding North West and Western regions of Melbourne and surrounding areas.

WPHs facilities include four Operating Theatres, CSSD, Day Procedure Unit, Day Oncology Unit, Overnight Ward for Medical, Surgical, CCU & HDU patients, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Specialist Consulting Suites, PET Centre and are supported by pathology, pharmacy, radiology and radiation therapy services.

About the Role

We have multiple opportunities thatexist for Imaging Assistantsto join our friendly and collaborative team at our Nuclear Medicine / PET Centre Department, to work on a CASUAL basis with flexibility and availability to work across 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) working between the hours of 8:00am to 6.30pm (variable shift times).

This is arole that involves assisting and working under the direction of our Nuclear Medicine Technologists within our busy department to optimise the efficiency of the Nuclear Medicine / PET Centre Department, and is responsible for carrying out work of a general nature, assisting the Nuclear Medicine Technologists during the PET/CT scan process.

In addition to working with patients and assisting with the operational aspects of workflow, the Imaging Assistant is also required to perform administrative and workflow support tasks, including but not limited to:-

  • collecting patient's previous imaging/reports
  • (with training) importing of external imaging on to the hospital PACS and transferring images to other hospitals
  • assisting with setting up of patients on the scanner
  • reconstructing patient images
  • using the department's radiology information software (RIS) for data entry

About You

This opportunity would suit a university student studying a bachelor degree in nuclear medicine/radiography with an interest and aptitude for health science and a genuine desire to help people and improve their outcomes. You will have a respectful approach to our patients' privacy and rights.

This is a terrific opportunity for a learner looking to gain real-life experience and having the opportunity to work with various software programs relevant to medical imaging and work with patients.

Selection Criteria

  • Basic ability to handle patient care with compassion and tact, ensuring the patients privacy, dignity and confidentiality is maintained
  • High level computer literacy skills
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact pleasantly and effectively
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to work by taking initiative and seeking out opportunities to contribute beyond assigned tasks
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team
  • Good time management and organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail and able to follow work procedures and processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment with the flexibility to embrace changes
