This is a progressive position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note the salary rate shown reflects both classification ranges.

The role requires a professional who can work both independently and collaboratively to design and lead school-based interventions, while engaging regional services and external agencies to strengthen student wellbeing, engagement, and educational outcomes.

  • Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students across multiple schools.
  • Develop and foster relationships between the school, families, and Elders to help Indigenous students stay engaged with education, training, and long-term employment.
  • Participate in developing activities, both in and out of school, to enhance the involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families in education.
  • Establish and maintain links with out-of-school sources of information and support services to assist in the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and students.
  • Provide information to the school community about Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural perspectives.
  • Conduct home visits with students and their families, as appropriate, to advise and provide strategies for a more positive educational experience.
  • Be part of the professional team working with the school and community, liaising with students, teachers, parents, guidance officers, administrative staff, welfare officers, and other government departments.
  • Participate in professional networking and development.
