Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer

Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer - Database Systems and AI. Join the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland. This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years, based at the St Lucia Campus. Base salary will be in the range $82, $109,246.18 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A).

• Conducting original research in AI-enhanced data systems.
• Developing intelligent storage, indexing, and query optimisation techniques.
• Translating research into deployable prototypes and open-source tools.
• Publishing in leading conferences such as ACM SIGMOD and PVLDB.
• Teaching (20%) and supervising research students.
• Engaging with industry and academic collaborators.

• A PhD (completed or near-completion) in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, with demonstrated research strength in data systems, AI for databases, or large-scale data infrastructure.
• Expertise in core database system techniques, including indexing, query processing, and system-level optimisation.
• Proven ability to conduct system-oriented research, with experience designing and evaluating complex, data-intensive systems.
• Strong programming and system design skills, particularly in C++, C, Java, and Python, with hands-on experience in large-scale data frameworks or database internals.
• Demonstrated research impact, with publications in top-tier international peer-reviewed journals and conferences (e.g., ACM SIGMOD, PVLDB).
• Collaborative and independent work capabilities, with experience contributing to high-performing research teams and cross-disciplinary or industry-focused research projects.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively, meet goals, and build strong academic and industry relationships.
