Join Hume City Council as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse providing health monitoring and support to children and families in a diverse community.

Your Role

Here's what you will be doing:

  • Provide the recommended schedule of health monitoring activities to children from birth to 6 years at key development ages, as specified by the Department of Health
  • Identify and provide additional and/or flexible services and programs to meet the needs of families from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including outreach home visits, clinic and/or telehealth consultations, or group sessions
  • Undertake appropriate actions such as anticipatory guidance, providing learning, health, and child development information, initial/limited counselling, referrals to internal and external agencies, identifying outcomes and interventions, and making notifications to the Department of Families Fairness and Housing
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of daily activities, child/family profiles, and other required documents in accordance with relevant standards and privacy requirements
  • Adhere to Council policy, protocol, and Department of Health guidelines
  • Maintain confidentiality of information at all times
About You

The company is looking for:

  • Registered Nurse and Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with additional qualifications in Maternal and Child Health
  • Current driver's licence
  • Knowledge of well child development and deviations, post-natal recovery of the mother, lactation establishment and maintenance, and family dynamics impacting the child
  • Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work as a sole practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team framework
  • Decision-making skills based on professional knowledge and expertise
  • Experience conferring with Coordinator/Team Leader on issues relating to Department of Families Fairness and Housing notifications
  • Knowledge of quality improvement cycles
Compensation & Benefits
  • Year 1 – Year 4 salary range: AUD103,000 - AUD128,500 (pro rata) plus superannuation and qualification allowance
