Senior Psychologist (Mental Health Clinician – Crisis Support Space)

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is launching a new Crisis Support Space(CSS) as part of a state-wide initiative to transform how we respond to mentaldistress and suicidal ideation. We're seeking a passionate and experiencedSenior Mental Health Clinician to lead this innovative service and provideadvanced clinical leadership in a non-clinical, peer-supported environment.

This is a unique opportunity to workat the forefront of mental health reform—supporting individuals in crisis whilecollaborating across emergency and community services.

About the Role

As a Senior Mental Health Clinician,you will:

  • Provide clinical oversight and risk managementwithin the CSS.
  • Support and mentor Peer Workers andnon-clinical staff.
  • Deliver basic mental health triage and ensureappropriate referrals for clinical care.
  • Collaborate closely with the EmergencyDepartment, Acute Care Team, and other services to ensure continuity ofcare.
  • Foster strong relationships with serviceproviders to enhance referral pathways and treatment access.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment that upholdsthe dignity and well-being of consumers and carers.
  • Lead quality improvement and researchinitiatives to evaluate and evolve the service.

What You'll Need

Four-year Psychology degree (Honours orGraduate Diploma) and registration with AHPRA.

Highly Regarded

  • Postgraduate qualifications inClinical Psychology (Masters or Doctorate), or significant progress towardcompletion.
  • Appointment as an AuthorisedMental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016, or ademonstrated commitment to completing the requirements for appointment.
