About usJohn Fawkner Private Hospital is located in the north-west suburbs of Melbourne. With 186 registered beds, an emergency department, 5 operating theatres, 12 bed Critical Care Complex and a busy day surgery/endoscopy unit the hospital provides a wide range of services to its community.
The hospital specialises in orthopaedics, general surgery, general medicine, oncology, cardiology, urology, plastic surgery, ENT, gynaecology and neurology.

Role overviewAs an experienced CSSD Instrument Technician- Grade 4 / Educator your responsibilities will include:
- Organise training sessions for all CSSD staff e.g. loan equipment
- Take on portfolio of Infection control
- Handle all repair requests
- Cleaning, disinfecting, testing, maintenance of Endoscopy equipment
- Ensure sterilizing practice standards AS: 5369:2023 and infection control guidelines are adhered to at all times
- Perform duties in all work areas of the department (decontamination, packing, sterilisation, loan instruments and endoscopy)
- Testing of machinery (washers, sterilisers etc.)
- Complete audits when required
- Ability to plan, manage resources and understand the importance of prioritised equipment
- Inform CSSD Manager/Floor Co-ordinator of any deviations from normal e.g. spore tests, pre-vac tests, washer tests, ultra-sonic tests etc
- Perform other duties as specified by the CSSD Manager or Peri-Operative Services Manager
- Minimum of 3 years Grade 4 experience, or higher
- Strong experience in Endoscopy required
- Certificate IV in sterilising services or working towards this certificate
- GENCA accreditation (desirable but not essential)
- Committed to maintaining currency in practical skills and knowledge
- Able to work well in a team as well as independently
- Able to prioritize, plan, take the initiative and respond to changes
