Base pay range

A$800.00/daily - A$1,000.00/daily

Our client, a leading government department, is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join their ICT Digital Solutions team. This role will play a key part in a large-scale digital transformation, ensuring the scalability, security, and efficiency of data solutions that support critical Vocational Education and Training (VET) IT systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact data projects that shape the future of digital services in the public sector.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing data pipelines, architectures, and analytics solutions within a hybrid cloud environment. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to both operational data management and transformation initiatives.

You will play a pivotal role in:

  • Developing and managing scalable data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies
  • Building and optimizing data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and storage within Fabric Lakehouses / Delta Lakes
  • Ensuring data integrity, security, and governance compliance
  • Supporting advanced analytics through data preparation for machine learning models
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to align data solutions with business reporting and analytics objectives
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines
  • Optimize SQL queries for performance tuning and database management
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance issues
  • Ensure a smooth transition of data solutions from project implementation to BAU operations
  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify and implement data management improvements
  • Mentor and support team members on data engineering tools and best practices
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering within Azure environments
  • Strong expertise in Azure Synapse, data lakes, SQL-based tools (SSIS, SSRS), and PySpark
  • Experience in data pipeline development, ETL processes, and cloud-based data management
  • Advanced SQL skills with a focus on query optimization and database integration
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices
  • Exposure to machine learning and statistical models for advanced analytics
  • Familiarity with Data Modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical)
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Power BI, Dynamics 365, and Dataverse
  • Understanding of DevOps/CI-CD for data pipelines
