We're seeking a Head of Engineering to join our Engineering leadership group. Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll play a vital role in shaping Kogan.com's technology future.

You'll oversee six cross-functional squads across web, data, mobile, and order fulfilment, with direct reports. Your focus will be balancing fast delivery with solid engineering foundations, collaborating closely with product and delivery teams to create exceptional customer outcomes.

As part of the leadership group, you'll drive key technical decisions, from architecture and tooling to best practices and scaling strategies. You'll also cultivate a high-performance culture that empowers teams to own their work, move with clarity, and deliver real impact. Balancing business priorities with team growth, you'll ensure delivery stays sharp.

What you'll do:

• Lead the architectural vision and engineering execution of the e-commerce platform, driving scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions aligned with business objectives.
• While this role has minimal hands-on coding, we value leaders who stay close to the code, engaging with engineers, understanding technical decisions, and fostering strong architectural and development discussions.
• Be the voice of Engineers, advocating for technical excellence, championing engineering perspectives in strategic discussions, and ensuring technical considerations are well-represented in decision-making.
• Leading and coaching engineering talent, supporting team members' career growth, performance, and ongoing learning.
• Championing a strong and pragmatic engineering culture focused on high performance.
• Driving AI adoption and experimentation across engineering teams to unlock smarter, faster ways of working.
• Working closely with our engineers in technical discussions, troubleshooting, DevOps, and scaling efforts where needed.
• Driving cohesion across squads, ensuring teams work together effectively.
• Partnering closely with product and delivery to prioritise, ship, and iterate quickly.
• Leading and enabling cost optimisation efforts, driving smarter decisions across systems, resourcing, and architecture.
• Leading and building future leaders within the technical leadership group to shape technical direction and align on key decisions across engineering.

What you'll need:

• Proven experience leading high-performing engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
• A balanced mindset, able to weigh commercial impact, engineering excellence, and people needs to drive decisions that serve both the business and the team.
• Strong technical background and ability to engage deeply with architectural decisions.
• A delivery mindset, with the ability to balance quality, speed, and long-term thinking.
• Passionate about growing people and building inclusive, high-trust teams.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and bringing clarity to the teams around you.
• Collaborative by nature you work across functions and foster alignment.
