Position: Advisor, Safety, Health, and Wellbeing | AO5

The Safety, Health and Wellbeing team supports the detention centre workforce by providing expert advice and support in Workplace Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation, and Employee Wellness.

About the role: The Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor is responsible for advising and responding to workplace health, safety, and organisational wellbeing across the Wacol Precinct. This includes implementing departmental policies and procedures and designing initiatives in these areas.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Perform functions as Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 to help the department meet legal obligations.
  2. Assist in managing worker's compensation claims and rehabilitation activities.
  3. Investigate workplace injuries, illnesses, and dangerous events, providing practical advice and recommendations to managers to prevent recurrences.
  4. Provide training and information to management and staff on workplace health and safety, worker's compensation, and relevant legislation and policies.
  5. Engage in hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control activities.
  6. Conduct or coordinate internal inspections and audits, and report on the development, implementation, and effectiveness of safe systems of work.
