About the role

The Legal Counsel – Employment and Safety Law Specialist role is newly created and pivotal to the organisation. Reporting to an impressive and friendly Group Manager Legal with a dotted reporting line to the Employee Relations Manager, you will be responsible for autonomously managing employment and safety law and supporting the organisation's People and Safety team from a legal perspective. While the focus is on employment and safety, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be exposed to broader commercial legal work as part of a lean legal team.

As the subject matter specialist in employment law, this role will focus on:

  1. Advising on employment contracts including restraints of trade, entitlements, confidentiality obligations
  2. Representing the company before relevant tribunals and courts on employment matters
  3. Advising on complex workplace investigations, restructures, redundancies, disciplinary actions, and employment terminations
  4. Advising on WHS compliance, investigations, and regulatory matters
  5. Delivering training on employment and WHS compliance
  6. Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts including equipment hire, IT, marketing, and supplier contracts
About you
  • You will be an employment lawyer with at least 5 years' experience with a reputable law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Any work health and safety law experience is desirable
  • You will be a confident and clear communicator who can effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • A commercially aware candidate with a pragmatic, practical approach and a good sense of humour is sought
