Software Engineer (Python/Linux/Packaging)

Overview

Canonical is hiring talented Software Engineers with strong Python, packaging and Linux skills to impact the day-to-day workflow of thousands of snap, charm and rock publishers. You will work on tooling that builds snaps, charms, and Rocks, and help simplify shipping software to a wide audience.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain Python tools to support the developer build and publication process for snaps, charms and rocks.
  • Work with build systems, cross-compilation toolchains and packaging formats; improve automation to ease developer experience.
  • Collaborate with external open source and commercial projects to better serve community needs.
  • Extend the snap build ecosystem using Python, tools, frameworks, integrations and CI systems.
Qualifications
  • Expertise in Python.
  • Strong understanding of a modern GNU/Linux distribution.
  • Good understanding of build systems and toolchains, including cross-compilation.
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, and LXD).
  • Ability to work with various languages, toolchains, frameworks, integrations, and CI systems.
