About the Role

We're looking for a culturally grounded, passionate leader to guide the Empowered and Connected Families team. This isn't just a job — it's an opportunity to walk at the front of a bold, nation-leading change through Queensland's Delegated Authority initiative. As Team Leader, you'll lead a deadly team of Specialists supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and their families through a family-led, strengths-based, culturally safe model of support. You'll help guide critical decisions, uphold cultural integrity, and create space for family voices to lead the way.

Position Duties

  • Leads and supervises a team of Empowered and Connected Families workers in the delivery of collaborative practices when dealing with child protection and the Department of Child Safety
  • Support team to undertake client work in line with key delegated authority and equal rights frameworks and underpinning theories
  • Ensures the Empowered and Connected Families services delivered, comply with legislation, delegations, policies, procedures and quality standards
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Lead to co-ordinate the operations of the Empowered and Connected Families teams within the division

Selection Criteria

  • Formal qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures, kinship systems, and community dynamics
  • Demonstrated leadership or senior practice experience in child and family support, reunification, or child protection
  • Proven ability to guide staff in trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice
  • Experience supervising staff and managing service delivery outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including outreach, after-hours where required

Additional Information

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers' license.
  • A Blue Card for working with children is a mandatory requirement. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a Blue Card must be obtained prior to commencement.
  • As this is a risk-assessed role underthe Child Protection Act 1999, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a LCS2 clearance withing 3 months of commencing employment.
  • *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
