We are seeking two Senior Engineering Specialists to support the technical implementation, sustainment, and continuous improvement of two key communication systems that enable safe air navigation and aviation rescue operations across Australia.

You will play a key role in enhancing communication capabilities, driving technology improvements, and ensuring operational integrity for systems supporting air traffic control and rescue services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities throughout the full system lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, testing, and verification.
  • Support and enhance a portfolio of operational communications systems, including voice switch platforms, telecommunications infrastructure, VHF/UHF/HF systems, dispatch consoles, and related technologies.
  • Manage system sustainment activities and contribute to the delivery of technology change in line with safety, risk, and configuration management standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and trusted advice in support of system performance, availability, and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and vendor teams to deliver efficient and high-quality technical outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation including engineering specifications, test plans, system design documents, and safety reports.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise frameworks including Safety Management Systems, Technology Management Frameworks, and applicable aviation regulations.

Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (e.g. RPEQ).
  • Extensive experience in communications systems engineering – ideally within aviation, defence, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage system-level projects involving integration, testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Proven expertise in stakeholder engagement, vendor coordination, and risk-based decision-making.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical systems and regulatory frameworks such as the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (Part 171) is desirable.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions across diverse teams.
