What you'll do:
As Software Development Manager , you will take on a central role in guiding the product development team towards delivering innovative solutions that meet stringent quality standards. Your day-to-day activities will involve providing both strategic vision and practical guidance as you oversee the design, build, and maintenance of complex software products. You will work collaboratively with architects, delivery leads, analysts, testers, developers, and other stakeholders to prioritise features against delivery timelines while ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained at every stage. By championing best practices in engineering governance - spanning code quality reviews to incident response - you will help embed a culture of continuous improvement. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and non-technical executives will be essential as you represent Engineering in leadership forums or customer escalations. Ultimately, your success in this role will be measured by your capacity to inspire high performance within your team while delivering reliable products that positively impact patient care.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for secure, scalable cloud platforms in the healthcare domain
- Lead cross-functional full-stack development teams through all stages of the SDLC
- Drive adoption of AI tools and automation to boost engineering efficiency and platform intelligence
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions
- Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
- Oversee code reviews and uphold high standards across backend, frontend, QA, and DevOps
- Strengthen engineering governance with clear standards for testing, documentation, observability, and incident response
- Collaborate with product leadership to align technical execution with roadmap priorities and compliance needs
- Ensure smooth front-end/back-end integration and compliance TGA, and FDA regulations
What you bring:
To succeed as Software Development Manager, you'll bring senior-level experience in software engineering - ideally in regulated sectors like healthcare or fintechc - alongside strong technical and people leadership skills. You'll have hands-on expertise with modern tech stacks (e.g. React, Node.js, AWS, PostgreSQL), CI/CD, microservices, and security best practices. Equally important are your collaboration skills, ability to translate business needs into scalable solutions, and experience fostering inclusive, high-performing teams. Familiarity with Agile and AI/ML integration is a strong advantage.
- A degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent qualifications/experience demonstrating deep technical expertise relevant to software development management roles
- A minimum of five years experience in technical leadership positions with direct people management responsibilities within cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated success scaling teams in regulated industries such as healthcare or fintech where compliance is paramount
- Hands-on proficiency with databases including PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB as well as DevOps/cloud infrastructure (AWS/CI/CD pipelines)
- Comprehensive understanding of software design principles including microservices architecture/APIs coupled with privacy/security best practice (ISO27001/HIPAA)
- Experience applying agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban within multidisciplinary environments focused on iterative delivery
- Proven track record integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems or supporting data analytics platforms for enhanced decision-making
- Exceptional interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration across engineering/product/design/executive teams along with clear communication of complex strategies
- Demonstrated ability leading inclusive teams committed to quality delivery through continuous improvement initiatives
