About Us

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), and The Royal Women's Hospital (The Women's) have united to deliver world-leading cancer care through the Strategic Cancer Service Plan (SCSP), which aims to provide exceptional cancer treatment, discovery, and leadership to the people of Victoria and beyond.

This collaborative effort seeks to elevate the standard of cancer care across the state, improving access to specialized services. In alignment with the Victorian Health Services Plan, Peter Mac will serve as the lead health service for adult clinical cancer services, driving the 10-year SCSP (2025–2035) vision forward. We're seeking a highly skilled Project Manager to manage and implement this vision for the initial 3-year phase.

About the Role

As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the Strategic Cancer Service Plan. Your expertise in project management, team collaboration, and strategic execution will directly impact the future of cancer care in Victoria.

You'll work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the success of this major initiative, overseeing everything from project planning and governance to communication and change management.

Responsibilities

Essential

  • Proven senior operational experience in managing complex health services and projects.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth understanding of hospital systems, clinical processes, and financial performance indicators.
  • Relevant health degree and postgraduate qualifications in management or project management.

Desirable

  • Track record of delivering projects successfully, on time and within budget.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and project management tools.

You will work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including :

  • Internal : CEOs, Executive Teams, Medical Directors, Nurse Unit Managers, and Senior Leaders in the research directorate.
  • External : Department of Health, Safer Care Victoria, Parkville Precinct Partners, LHSN partners.

Remuneration between $136,650.80 per annum to $170,000.00 per annum (full-time equivalent) dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

In alignment with Precinct partner strategic directions, the Precinct will 'Provide the world's best cancer care, cancer discovery and translation, and leadership for all people affected by cancer in Victoria.'

There is a unique opportunity to raise the standard of cancer care and equalise access to specialist cancer services for Victorians through the Victorian Health Services Plan and the unique suite of services, expertise and partnerships in the Parkville Precinct.

Peter Mac will be the lead health service for adult clinical cancer services for the Precinct.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous operational experience leading health services at a senior level
  • Extensive experience in running complex projects
  • Exceptional skills in communication, negotiation and mediation
  • Comprehensive understanding of complex hospital systems, including clinical and financial performance indicators
  • Health degree qualification
  • Post graduate qualifications in management or health / business administration or equivalent project management expertise

Key Accountabilities

1. Project Management

  • Lead the development and implementation of high-quality project planning and management approaches.
  • Drive project delivery through day-to-day management of activities against the project plan
  • Independently gather and critically analyse relevant information / data to facilitate decision making, design and evaluation of initiatives, and monitoring of progress towards project objectives.
  • Identify, track, and resolve issues, mitigate risks, and where appropriate escalate to the project governing committee.
  • Manage and support project governance, including the set-up, coordination, and maintenance of effective project governance groups.
  • Initiate and prepare high quality written reports to communicate progress and inform project decisions, including briefings, discussion papers, project proposals and status reports, including executive and Board reporting.

2. Engagement, Communication and Change Management

  • Lead collaboration with cross precinct clinical and non-clinical teams to prioritise and implement the recommendations.
  • Coordinate and apply change management methodologies to ensure adequate people and culture change elements are applied at relevant project stages.
  • Represent the Parkville Precinct in external meetings and forums.
  • Strong capability to prepare and deliver exceptional presentations to a range of audiences, facilitate workshops and consultation / partnering with internal and external stakeholders, including patients and clinicians.
