Overview

System Engineer – Hybrid setup (Brisbane CBD and Millmerran, QLD). Location: Brisbane CBD and Millmerran (Hybrid Setup). Contract Type: Contract initial 6 months with likely extension. This position offers a hybrid work model with remote work, office collaboration in Brisbane CBD, and occasional onsite engagement at Millmerran, QLD.

Hourly travel allowance + mileage for onsite days in Millmerran, QLD.

Engagement and Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to provide advanced technical support, security management, and infrastructure maintenance across client environments. This role involves a mix of remote work, office collaboration in Brisbane CBD, and onsite engagement at the client site in Millmerran, QLD (once or twice per month).

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving IT infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable systems, and supporting Level 1 engineers while leading or contributing to various IT projects.

Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure & Security Support
  • Administer and troubleshoot Veeam Backup & Replication
  • Manage and maintain HPE server infrastructure
  • Configure and support Fortinet security solutions (FortiGate firewalls, FortiNAC)
  • Support Cisco solutions (Duo MFA, Meraki networking)
  • Administer Office 365 & Exchange environments
  • Manage VMware vSphere environments
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning and remediation using Qualys (CSAM, VMDR)
    • Operations & Maintenance
    • Perform routine server management, patching, and maintenance activities
    • Ensure backup and disaster recovery processes are tested and reliable
    • Monitor and resolve system performance, availability, and security issues
      • Team Leadership & Mentoring
      • Provide guidance and technical escalation support to Level 1 engineers
      • Share knowledge and contribute to internal documentation
        • Projects & Implementation
        • Lead or contribute to infrastructure and security projects including:
        • Exchange upgrades and migrations
        • Firewall upgrades and configuration
        • Server and storage refreshes
        • Cloud and hybrid integration initiatives
          • Client Engagement & Travel
          • Travel to the Millmerran client site (1–2 days per month) to provide onsite support
          • Represent the business professionally and maintain strong client relationships
          Required Qualifications & Skills
          • Proven experience in IT infrastructure and security engineering
          • Hands-on experience with:
          • Backup & Storage: Veeam Backup & Replication
          • Servers: HPE hardware administration
          • Security: Fortinet (FortiGate, FortiNAC), Cisco Duo, Meraki
          • Productivity & Messaging: Office 365, Microsoft Exchange
          • Virtualisation: VMware vSphere
          • Security Management: Qualys (CSAM, VMDR)
          • Strong knowledge of networking, firewalls, and endpoint security best practices
          • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple platforms
          • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
          • Demonstrated experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
          Desirable Skills
          • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) in hybrid environments
          • Knowledge of ITIL practices for incident, change, and problem management
          • Familiarity with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Python)
