Overview

Job Title: Disability Support Professionals

About Us

Focal is a well-established local provider of disability support services. At Focal we support people of all ages and needs in their homes and the community. Through our person- centred approach, we are building a brighter tomorrow for people with disability throughout South-East Queensland.

For those we support, it's all about building their capacity to exercise freedom, choice and control. We work alongside each participant as advocates – to help them maximise and implement all the supports in their plan including informal, mainstream, community, formal and funded supports.

Job Summary

In this position you will be responsible for using the strategies determined in the client's individualized support plan to deliver quality services that are aligned with both client and organisational expectations. You engage well with clients and have a passion for promoting independence and enhancing the quality of life for those we support. We work with a diverse client group and currently are looking for support workers to deliver a range of services including community access, in-home supports and respite.

Skills
  • Demonstrable experience in providing active and engaging supports
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adjust your communication style to suit client needs and preferences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Empathy and compassion towards people with disabilities
  • Patience, understanding, and resilience
  • Core support worker skills in manual handling, medication assistance and seizure management
  • Experience working with positive behaviour support plans will be highly regarded
Responsibilities
  • Implement individualized care plans in consultation with clients, their families or guardians.
  • Assist clients with personal care
  • Provide assistance with meal preparation, feeding and medication management.
  • Encourage participation in social activities to promote social interaction among clients.
  • Accompany clients on outings or appointments when required.
  • Actively engage with the client to build their capabilities and accomplish their goals.
  • Observe and respond flexibly to the changing needs of clients
  • Maintain accurate records regarding client's health status.
Qualifications
  • Certificate III/IV in Disability Services highly desirable.
  • 2+ Years' prior experience working in disability services is desirable
  • A current valid driver's license, roadworthy vehicle, NDIS Worker Screening, Blue Card, CPR and First Aid Certificate are mandatory requirements.

The position is remunerated in line with the Social Community, Home Care and Disability Award with classification based on experience and suitability.
